Our first work week in
China is over! To celebrate Rick and I wanted to go to a local dumpling house
that all the ex-pats have been raving about. Adam accompanied us and showed us
the ropes on ordering food, asking for the check, and most importantly, how to
order beer (obviously my first priority).
There are many choices for
beer here, from Japanese (Tsingtao and Sapporo), to German (Weistsheiner and
Hoegaarden) to Corona (eye roll). I've been drinking Tsingtao and also a beer
called Tiger, which (I think) is a Chinese beer. I'm pretty sure it's the
equivalent to the Champagne of Beers, but it's so hot here that I want
something light and refreshing, and this seems to be it.
When we walked into the
restaurant, we could look through a window into the kitchen and watch the chefs
hand rolling the dumplings. Needless to say, they were easily the best
dumplings I've ever had! We got shrimp and pork, veggie and pork, along with a
side of green beans with a bacon-like topping #nomnomnom
I seriously could have eaten
three more pots of dumplings. Adam is obviously unaware of my eating habits and
that I can put down a salad, 10oz steak accompanied by vegetables and still be
hungry an hour later. If this trip will teach me anything, it'll be to stop
eating like a total American fat ass.
My Chinese word count: 4
Phonetically speaking...
1. Ni hao (knee-how) =
hello
2. Pijiuo (pee-jyo) = beer
3. Mydong = check (yep,
that one needs no phonetics, it sounds exactly as it looks)
4. Shay shay = Thank you
(I think i pronounce it wrong every time so I don't say it a lot for fear that
I sound dumb)
